We Did Something Different This Saturday Morning — And the Kids Loved Every Second

Saturday mornings are made for cartoons, slow breakfasts, and letting the kids run a little wild around the house while you sneak in a cup of coffee. But this Saturday, I voluntarily pulled myself together earlier than usual and loaded the kids in the car to head out to Laurel Park for their Morning Workout Show. It was absolutely worth! It runs between 8 and 10 a.m. and the whole family gets a fun experience watching thoroughbred racehorses do what they were literally born to do, right there on the track in front of you.

When we walked in, we were greeted with gift bags for the kids filled with goodies like a coloring book, socks, and a keychain. Then there was a complimentary breakfast of pancakes, sausage biscuits, juice, and coffee. Not to mention face painting and a photo station. Even more, I didn’t expect how alive the whole scene would feel, and honestly, how much my kids would lock in. There’s something about being trackside while the horses run at full speed that hits completely different in person. My kids were glued. No complaints, no “I’m bored,” just wide eyes and a whole lot of “Mommy, look at THAT one!” “I like that one!”

Laurel Park has been a fixture in Maryland for decades, and standing there trackside with my family, I could feel why people have been coming back for generations. And the hospitality at this FREE family event was unmatched.
