College Park Aviation Museum: The DMV Hidden Gem You Need to Visit

April 26, 2026

I recently made my second visit – the last being two years ago – to the College Park Aviation Museum. II was instantly reminded of how amazing it is and pleasantly surprised by the new exhibits.

Located off of Route 1 in Prince George’s County, this museum sits right beside the world’s oldest continuously operating airport, where the Wright Brothers trained U.S. military officers in the early 1900s.

What makes this place so special is how the wonderful aviation stories are told, with living, interactive experiences that reel you in as soon as you enter. For starters, kids love the flight simulators, dress up costumes, and of course the planes they can see and even climb in!

Beyond the kid friendly features, there is real meaningful history on the walls. More recently, the museum opened an exhibit on the Columbia Air Center, that nation’s first licensed Black-owned and operated airport, which operated out of Croom, Maryland. There are also exhibits honoring women in aviation and many other pioneers in the field.

Great news for 2026 – College Park Aviation Museum is free right now as part of America’s 250th anniversary celebration!

Whether you come with your kids or bring your family or friends, it’s an excellent experience and you will leave knowing something you did not know before.
